2009-2010 Season preview
40 teams
are slated to play for the upcoming 2009-2010 Lipenos
Basketball season. Opening ceremonies are on Sunday,
November 8 at DMCI. We have 5 divisions this year with
the introduction of the Seniors Division. We have 6
teams for the midget division, 8 teams for the juvenile
division, 6 teams for the ladies division, 6 teams for
the seniors division and 14 teams for men’s open
division. We have some new teams and some familiar teams
coming back. We look forward to the season and wish
all players good luck! |

Jonar Huertas let’s his
game do all the talking. He plays big for his size often
muscling it down low or playing finese in the open court.
Jonar is a champion and familiar with winning. He was part
of the Sisler Spartans team that won the provincial championship
in 2006. That was a big year for him. He was on the provincial
all-star team, graduating all-star team for high school
and won MVP for they city championship. His debut in the
Lipenos Basketball League was in the 2004-2005 season. He
was on the juvenile champions team, Golden Eagles. Jonar
has made a name for himself in the Lipenos Basketball League.
In, 2006, he was on the NC Idolz team that won the championship
and was also on the all-star team. He won MVP honors for
the juvenile division in the FBA-NA Tournament in Toronto.
That was the first championship win for the Lipenos Basketball
League organization. In 2007, he won the MVP honors for
both the regular and playoff season for the Juvenile division
and led his team Marx Sound to the championship. He was
part of the back to back juvenile division champions for
the FBA Tournament held in Washington, DC. In 2008, Jonar
led the UMAC Cargo Express team to the championship for
the men’s open division earning him MVP honors for
the regular season. He finished the year off winning a three-peat
with the juvenile division for the FBA Tournament held in
Winnipeg. In 2009, UMAC Express Cargo won back to back champions
and he was the MVP for the playoffs. He moved up from the
juvenile division to the men’s open division for the
FBA Tournament where he was part of the back to back Men’s
Open Division Champions held in Glendale Heights, Illinois.
For the 2008-2009 season, Jonar played with the Red River
Running Rebels joining former Sisler Spartan teammate Josh
Olaes and was part of the championship squad and won an
all-conference award. He was recruited by the University
of Manitoba Bisons Basketball team this past summer. He
will team up with his UMAC teammate Eric Garcia.

The Lipenos
Basketball League Inc. was founded in October 2001 mainly to assist
youth in our community to discover their potential in playing
the sport of basketball. Along the way, it has become a means
for building their self esteem and confidence, overcoming peer
pressure, developing teamwork, unity and sportsmanship. It encourages
play in a healthy competition atmosphere and leading a healthy
lifestyle. At the same time it promotes cultural awareness. Lipenos
Basketball League's mission is to ensure these young people are
able to participate in local, regional and national tournaments
to enhance and cultivate their skills.

Glendale Hights Report
Lipenos Basketball League brought
6 teams to the 2009 FBA-NA Tournament held in Glendale Heights,
Illinois. They were the 15 & Under Girls, Ladies, Midget,
Juvenile, Men’s Open and Masters divisions. It was a good
start to the weekend as our Muse, Crystal Petkau won FBA-NA Muse.

In Loving Memory
People come and go in our lives,
yet there is someone you meet along the way who leaves footprints
in our hearts and we are never the same.
It’s hard to imagine that Tito
Dong is gone. Most of us have the opportunity and the honor
of knowing him as a friend. He devoted his time to the Lipeños
Basketball League Inc. He was usually the first person at
games helping set up and was often seen at the scorer’s
table. Tito Dong was the treasurer of LBL Inc. He was kindhearted
and greeted all with a warm smile. Tito Dong was also the
number 1 fan during the games in Chicago and Washington for
the FBA Tournaments. He was proud of all the players and cheered
the loudest. He was a father figure to all especially the
girls teams.
Tito
Dong will be sadly missed and his absence felt. He will remain
in our hearts forever.…..we love you!
